Lieutenant John James Douglas, 15th (or The King’s) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Hussars), 1819 (c).

Oil on canvas by Sir Henry Raeburn, unfinished on his death and probably completed by a pupil, 1823 (c).

Douglas joined the 15th Light Dragoons in 1813 and saw active service in the Peninsula and at Waterloo. In 1819 he purchased a captaincy in the 22nd Light Dragoons but the following year the regiment was disbanded and he went on to half pay. He succeeded his father as 3rd Baronet in 1821 and shortly afterwards assumed the additional surname of Scott, having married Hannah-Charlotte Scott, daughter and heir to Henry Scott.
