This illustration is taken from the book 'War Game', written and illustrated by Michael Foreman. The book tells the story of four boys who after joining up to fight in the First World War, are sent to the Western Front in 1914. The story follows their experiences of life in the trenches, dealing with gunfire, death and the Christmas Truce.

Michael Foreman is a successful illustrator and author whose work spans five decades. He has written a number of children’s books with themes around conflict and has illustrated over three hundred books during his career. Michael continues to write and illustrate books today.
