Knocked-out German Panther tank, destroyed by an infantry PIAT at Bretteville-en-Orguilleuse, 1944.

Photograph from an album compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3/4 County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North West Europe.

Although the Projector Infantry Anti-Tank (PIAT) had its drawbacks such as the difficulty in cocking the weapon in a confined space and a maximum range of only 100 metres (109 yards), it was capable of penetrating any German tank armour, including the fearsome Panther heavy tank.
