King Thibaw being escorted to captivity by British soldiers, Burma, 1885.

Watercolour on Oriental paper, by a Burmese artist, 1885.

King Thibaw and his family were exiled to Ratnagiri near Bombay (Mumbai) in 1885. He memorably described the British who had deposed him and taken his kingdom as the 'bull-faced, earth-swallowing English'.
