The 7th (or The Queen's Own) Regiment of Light Dragoons was raised in 1690 as dragoons and converted to Light Dragoons in 1783, becoming hussars in 1807. At the time the picture was painted, the regiment was serving in the Netherlands as part of the Army under the Duke of York.
