Artillery on the Dunes, Flanders, 1915.

Two gun teams of the Royal Horse Artillery, headed by an officer, cantering across sand dunes, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918). Naval destroyers can be seen in the distance. The artist was originally a veterinary surgeon who served in the Army for 23 years with the 3rd Hussars, Queen's Bays and 2nd Life Guards. He later became famous as a sculptor of horses.
