Life Guards, Trumpeter in State Dress, 1828.

Lthograph by M Gauci after E Hull, 1828. Published by Engelmann, Graf, Coindet and Company, 1828.

From 1820, the two regiments of Life Guards, alongside the Royal Horse Guards, took turns to perform guard duties for the King at Windsor and in London. During state occasions and royal celebrations the Life Guards’ trumpeters and horn players wore handsome uniforms that were lined with sateen and decorated with velvet and gold covered lace. These uniforms are still worn today during ceremonial events.
