A captured German Panzer Mk III tank, North Africa, 1942 (c).

Photograph by Major W H J Sale, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North Africa, 1942 (c).

Throughout the campaign in North Africa, especially during 1941 and 1942, the Mark III was the German Army’s main strike weapon. Fast and manoeuvrable it was well suited to the desert conditions. It could be fitted with either a 37 mm or 50 mm cannon.

From an album containing 45 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1938-1945.
