The Riding Master was immediately responsible to the commanding officer of the Regiment for the training of recruits and for remounts. Horses for the Household Cavalry Regiments had to be fairly large, often around 16.0 hands high. They had to be able to carry a cavalryman wearing a heavy uniform and saddle.
